Mr. Plankton

Korean

I started the drama that's on Netflix

Mr. Plankton

At first glance, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The title sounded quirky, maybe even playful. But after just one episode, I realized this show was about to take me on a raw, emotional journey I didn’t even know I needed.

Summary:

The story revolves around Hae Jo, a man who feels like — you guessed it — a plankton. Drifting aimlessly from place to place, he’s never truly been able to "anchor" himself anywhere, thanks to a broken family and an isolated upbringing. But things shift when he decides to search for something more — a place to call home, both physically and emotionally. Along the way, he meets a colorful cast of characters, each carrying their own burdens and searching for their own version of "home."

Unlike your typical K-drama packed with love triangles or corporate power plays, Mr. Plankton goes deeper. It’s not a story about romance (though there are tender moments); it’s a story about belonging.

Thoughts:

There’s something so relatable about Hae Jo’s journey. Haven’t we all felt a little "lost at sea" at some point? Drifting from job to job, place to place, or even relationship to relationship, wondering where we truly fit? That’s Hae Jo in a nutshell. Watching him wrestle with this unspoken struggle hit close to home.

The show doesn't offer quick fixes or magical solutions. Instead, it shows that sometimes, finding "home" isn't about a place — it's about the people you meet along the way. And that message? It stays with you.

Mr. Plankton isn’t just another K-drama. It’s a quiet, powerful story about life’s in-between moments — the ones where you’re not quite sure where you’re going or why. If you’ve ever felt untethered, this show will feel like a mirror. And if you’re looking for something a little slower, a little deeper, and a lot more human, this one’s for you.

So, if you’re tired of flashy love triangles and over-the-top drama, give Mr. Plankton a try. You might just find a piece of yourself in Hae Jo’s story.

Warning; You will cry, A LOT
